Displayed is a 1966 Topps Chewing Gum Tom Seaver signed contract, possibly Seaver's first contract with Topps. "Tom Terrific's" first Topps card was his 1967 rookie card, card #581, which Seaver shared with fellow Mets rookie pitcher Bill Denehy. Hall of Famer Seaver pitched 20 Major League seasons, and he remains most noted for his time with the New York Mets (1967-77 & '83). Seaver won 311 games and was the key pitcher on the 1969 World Champion "Miracle Mets." The signed Topps contract measures 8.5x14". On the top, after "PLAYER'S NAME" is typed "George Thomas Seaver." In part, the contract (of one page, front and back) reads, "PAYMENT: Five Dollars ($5.00) by check to me in hand, receipt of which I hereby acknowledge. I shall also receive One Hundred and Twenty Five Dollars ($125.00) for each Baseball Season....for five full Baseball Seasons." The contract is dated by a typed "4/6/66" in the upper right corner of the front side, and, written in an unknown hand, "5-22-66" on the bottom right front side. Seaver signed the contract, writing in neat, ballpoint, blue ink, on the line over "player's signature" at the bottom left of the front. Seaver signed as "Tom Seaver." Seaver's big and bold, neat signature rates 8/10. The contract has three folds, from being folded for placement in an envelope, not included. The lower right of the contract shows a tiny, partial tear and a very small fold of the paper along the edge. The signed Topps contract has a partial tear in the upper right corner, and a very slight darkening because of the passage of time. but neither the slight tear nor the slight darkening affects his signature.
