Displayed is a circa 1903 an extremely rare, beautiful, vintage E.B. Estes & Sons baseball bat. Founded by Elihu Beach Estes in 1847, the company during the 1890s was the foremost wooden pillbox manufacturers in the world. The firm had offices in New York City, in Europe and Australia, and had manufacturing plants in Massachusetts, Maine, and in St. Johns, Canada. The company expanded its offerings, including making furniture, bowling pins, and baseball bats - even before the famous J. F. Hillerich & Son, of Louisville, Kentucky, began bat manufacturing. The E.B. Estes & Sons company was one of the earliest documented bat manufacturers in history. There are only five known examples of E.B. Estes & Sons bats in the hobby at this time. The bat is 35" in length, and it weighs 36.8 ounces. The bat has "Estes Professional" etched into the label, and the bat's center brand shows a player wearing a pillbox cap. "A" is carved into the bottom of the knob. The etched letter "C" below the label indicates that the bat is an ESTES Pro Model C. As a curious note, Estes Model C bats are usually listed as being 33" in length, instead of this Model C bat being 35" long. The bat shows use, and it is in EXCELLENT condition, and it makes a wonderful example of such a rare E.B. Estes bat from baseball's vintage years.
