Government postcard, postmarked "Sep 4 1953," signed by Jackie Robinson. This is one of the more interesting Robinson signed postcards we have handled because when Robinson started to sign the card, his blue pen was obviously not working, so he obtained another blue pen and signed it again below the first attempt. As a result the card features a partial "Jack" signature along with his full signature. The full signature grades 7/10, while the partial signature grades 5/10. This card has been consigned by the original recipient in 1953. As he explained, all the young Dodgers fans would wait outside the stadium after the games and hand the players addressed government postcards, in the hopes that the players would sign them and drop them in the mailbox. As we see here, Robinson was happy to oblige and this piece has been in our consignor's possession since that time. The postcard (5.5x3.25") displays a small chip in the upper right corner, toning, light-to-moderate creasing, and paper residue on the reverse from having once been mounted in an album.
