Bobby Wallace was a Hall of Famer, mostly as a slick-fielding shortstop, from 1894-1918, and offered is a Bobby Wallace signed index card. Born as Roderick Wallace in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1873, the 5'8" Wallace played in 25 Major League seasons: Cleveland Spiders (1894-98), St. Louis Perfectos/Cardinals (1899-1901 & 1917-18), St. Louis Browns (1902-16). He began his career as a pitcher for the National League's Cleveland Spiders, and by 1897 had transitioned to third base. Later, he became a shortstop who was the consensus top fielding shortstop in the AL from 1902-11. While with the Browns, Wallace is generally credited as initiating a continuous throwing motion on ground balls rather than the conventional stop-and-toss method then in vogue. Wallace led the AL in assists by a shortstop in three seasons, and in 1901 he led the NL in double plays for a shortstop, and in range factor, and he led the AL in range factor in 1910. He batted a career .268 with 2,309 hits and 1,121 RBIs. As a pitcher, he had a lifetime 24-22 record with a 3.87 ERA. He was also a Major League manager for three seasons, and also an AL umpire, and a scout. Wallace signed the 3x5" index card in neatly written script with blue fountain ink. The signed card has been encapsulated, with a PSA/DNA CERTIFIED AUTO GRADE of "NM-MT 8."
