Mel Ott held the National League home run record from 1946-66 with 511. Displayed is an Ott cut signature, with a photo of the Hall of Fame right fielder. Ott was small for a power hitter, at 5'9" and 170 lbs. He made the New York Giants at 17 years old, and because of his youth, he was nicknamed "Master Melvin." He played his entire career with the Giants, from 1926-47. The 11-time All-Star was a key player on the 1933 World Champions. He batted a lifetime .304, with 2,876 hits. Ott, a left-handed batter, used a pronounced high kick of his right leg (partially observable in the photo next to his autograph). He was the first NL player to reach 500 home runs. At Ott's retirement as a player, he trailed only Babe Ruth and Jimmie Foxx in MLB home runs. It appears that the Ott photo, measuring approx. 1.6x2.3", was affixed to the offered piece of paper or light card stock, measuring 2.5x3.5". Ott signed in blue fountain pen ink, in a bold, neat signature. The offering has been encapsulated and given a PSA/DNA AUTO GRADE of "NM-MT 8."
