Original stadium seat from Detroit's Navin Field. Stadium seats from Navin Field are scarce and the offered example is the more desirable aisle-end seat featuring a decorative design to the metallic framework on the right side. Constructed of wood and metal, the folding seat displays layers of vintage green paint. Wear is consistent with decades of outdoor use, including oxidation to some of the exposed metal framework and numerous abrasions to the painted surfaces. A small plaque bearing the name "Navin Field 1912 - " is affixed to the backrest. The seat has been bolted to a large square wooden base (22x22") which allows it to stand freely. Navin Field opened on April 20, 1912 and remained home to the Tigers through July 24, 2001. Patrons who sat in this chair witnessed some of the greatest players in the game, foremost among them Ty Cobb, who spent twenty-two seasons with Detroit (1905-26). Navin Field was later known as Briggs Stadium in the 1930s and Tiger Stadium in the early 1960s, but by any name, it was always considered one of baseball's most venerable old ballparks. 21x14x32" (without the base). Please Note: The size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
