The 1970 World Series, when the Baltimore Orioles took the World Championship in five games, was a particularly memorable Series. The Orioles, in the Series for the second year in a row after losing the 1969 World Series in five games to the "Miracle Mets," took revenge on the National League. It was the last World Series to consist of all day games, it was the start of Cincinnati's Big Red Machine, and it featured a Series for the ages from Baltimore's Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson. The third baseman batted .429 in the Fall Classic while setting an all-time record with 17 total bases in the Series. Robinson had nine hits in the five games, with five runs scored, six RBIs, a pair of home runs, and a Series OPS of 1.238. On defense, Robinson was miraculous. Total Baseball called his '70 Fall Classic defensive play "other-worldly." Time and again, Robinson robbed hits from the Reds. Brooks not only won the World Series MVP Award but he was also awarded a new car from Toyota. Reds Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench said, "If we knew he wanted a car that badly, we'd have chipped in and bought him one." Lee May was the batting star for the Reds in the Series, hitting .389, with two home runs and eight RBIs. Hall of Famers in the Series for Baltimore: Jim Palmer, Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, and Earl Weaver, manager. Hall of Famers for Cincinnati: Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, and Sparky Anderson, manager. The full ticket measures 2.75x 6". It reads, in part, "WORLD SERIES 1970/BALTIMORE ORIOLES agent/MEMORIAL STADIUM/BALTIMORE, MARYLAND/LOWER BOX/$15.00/GAME 5/THIRD GAME IN BALTO." The ticket has been encapsulated and PSA graded "FULL EX-MT 6." There are nine other tickets at this level, but NONE HIGHER.
