Displayed is a pair of circa 1989 Derrick "Band-Aid" Chievous Houston Rockets game worn red and white signed PONY sneakers. Chievous is the all-time scoring leader at the University of Missouri. He obtained his Band-Aid" nickname in college from his trademark of wearing a band-aid on his sneakers, if not on his person, in games. Chievous, a first-round pick of Houston in 1988, played three seasons in the NBA: Houston Rockets (1988-90), Cleveland Cavaliers (1990-91). A 6'7" small forward, Chievous had his best NBA season as a rookie with Houston, averaging 9.3 PPG in 81 games in only 19.0 minutes per game, which prorates to an excellent 17.5 PPG per 36 minutes. After his NBA career, Chievous played in Europe and other venues. On the tongue of each sneaker is a PONY tag reading, "PONY name and Chevron design registered World Wide Made in Taiwan R.O.C." After the foregoing is a translation in French. Underneath the above tag is a smaller tag reading, "size 12 6779", and "870501 made in Taiwan" on back. The heel of each sneaker reads, PONY. On the outside, near the bottom of each sneaker is a molded PONY, and on the inside near each heel is a molded "NON MARKING SOLE COMPOUND." On the front of each tongue, the tag reads, PONY. The bottom of each sole reads, "MICRO-PILLOW." Chievous has signed and inscribed the outside of the right sneaker, using a blue marker, in neat script: "Best Wishes Derrick Bandaid [sic] Chievous 3." One of the best aspects of these signed game worn sneakers is the obvious great use. Sweat and dirt stains, surface wear, etc. are very apparent. The white laces exhibit fine wear. Near the outside of the heel on the right sneaker is a great touch: An actual band-aid, showing nice wear, affixed to the sneaker by an unknown person, very possibly Derrick "Band-Aid" Chievous himself!
