Displayed is a circa 1910s vintage Brown Brothers Hughie Jennings photograph depicting the Hall of Famer coaching third base while managing the Detroit Tigers. Jennings was in the Major Leagues as a player, coach, or manager from 1881-1925. As a shortstop, Jennings' best playing years were from 1893-98, with the Baltimore Orioles, then of the National League. This Orioles franchise won NL pennants in 1894, '95, and '96. In those three seasons, Jennings batted .335, .386, and .401. Jennings had a career Major League average of .312, with 359 stolen bases. Jennings managed the Detroit Tigers from 1907-1920, and the New York Giants for parts of both the 1924 and '25 seasons. He won pennants managing the 1907, '08, and '09 Tigers. Jennings became famous for his trademark yell of "Ee-Yah!" When coaching third base, Jennings would couple his "Ee-Yah!" yell with wild gyrations, often clapping his hands, sometimes clapping over his head, and often making a kick with his right leg. Something of Jennings' wild third base gyrations can be seen in the offered photograph as Jennings coaches third base. On back, an unknown hand has written in pencil, "Hughie Jennings c-100/C160[?]". The verso also has a Brown Brothers photographers' stamp, from the famous New York City photography studio. The offering has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as TYPE I AUTHENTIC. The photograph has faded somewhat from the passage of time, but Jennings and the ballpark can be clearly seen, and the photo is in otherwise EXCELLENT condition.
