Original Type I photograph capturing Lou Gehrig trying out for the role of "Tarzan" in an upcoming feature film. Gehrig is pictured in a leopard-skin outfit as he strikes a pose for the camera. Gehrig was one of several world-class athletes being considered for the role of "Tarzan" by producer Sol Lesser in 1936. Unfortunately, Gehrig did not get the part, but Lesser later hired Gehrig for the lead role in a B Western titled "Rawhide" in 1938. The date stamp "1936 Oct 12" appears on the reverse, along with an International News newspaper clipping featuring the offered image of Gehrig as "Tarzan." The photo (6.5x8.25") displays remnants of a label on the front, as well as editorial markings and several light creases. Encapsulated as Type I Authentic by PSA.
