Presented is a Yogi Berra Type I photograph that was used for the Hall of Fame catcher's 1950 Bowman image. Born as Lorenzo Pietro Berra, Yogi obtained his nickname from a childhood friend who remarked that "Larry" sat like a Yogi from India. With his height at only 5'7", and his wild swings at pitches out of the strike zone, Berra surprised most baseball people by hitting 358 lifetime home runs. Berra was both an outfielder and a catcher when he advanced through the minors to have a chance to make the Major League roster, and Hall of Fame catcher Bill Dickey became Yogi's mentor to polish his receiving skills. Yogi holds the MLB player record for most World Series wins, at ten. The offered photograph was colorized by Bowman and became Bowman's number 46 card in 1950. The photo measures 6.8x9". The photo has very light writing in the form of Berra's name written on it, but the writing is very faded. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as TYPE I AUTHENTIC.
