In the inaugural class of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Ty Cobb was the player receiving the most votes, besting fellow immortals Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson, and Walter Johnson. Presented is a Ty Cobb signature display that includes a cut signature of "the Georgia Peach." Cobb played 22 seasons with the Detroit Tigers (1905-1926), also managing the team in his final six years with Detroit. Cobb finished his career with two seasons on the Philadelphia Athletics. Cobb has the highest lifetime average in MLB history (.366). He once held the all-time Major League records for both hits and stolen bases. Cobb won either 11 or 12 batting titles (sources differ). Using his famous grip, with his hands starting four inches apart on the bat barrel, Cobb was the preeminent batting force of most of his career, until he was superseded by Babe Ruth's home runs as the baseball became much livelier. The offered display has great eye appeal, with three parts: 1) A 7.5x9.75" black and white photo of Cobb, in his Detroit Tiger uniform, showing his batting grip when he would slide his hands together to go for power. 2) A 5x5" plaque, with a black background and gold-colored letters and numerals, with gold-colored borders. The plaque reads, "Ty Cobb/"The Georgia Peach"/1909 Triple Crown Winner/1911 AL MVP/career .366 batting average (all-time record)/4189 career hits (2nd all time)/2246 career runs, 892 stolen bases. 3) Cobb's cut signature on 1.5x2.5" paper or card stock. Cobb signed a neat, bold signature in dark blue or black fountain ink. The display is matted and framed to 16.9x20.75". The display is in EXCELLENT condition. Full LOA from PSA.
