Cy Young is a Hall of Fame right-handed pitcher who won an incredible 511 games, the most in history. Presented is an impressive Cy Young autograph display. Young pitched for five Major League teams: Cleveland Spiders NL (1890-98), St. Louis Perfectos/Cardinals NL (1899-1900), Boston Americans/Red Sox (1901-08), Cleveland Naps (1909-11), Boston Rustlers NL (1911). Born Denton True Young, Cy earned the nickname of "Cyclone," later shortened "Cy," for the way his fastball would hit a fence of the grandstand and almost tear the boards off the fence, as if a Cyclone had appeared. With the Boston AL team, Young won the Pitching Triple Crown in 1901 and the 1903 World Series. He was a 5-time AL or NL wins leader and was a 1-time ERA leader in both the AL and NL and he was a season strikeout leader in both the AL and NL. Young pitched three no-hitters, including a perfect game on May 5, 1904. He rarely suffered a sore arm, sometimes attributed to his ability to deliver the ball from different arm angles, overhand, three-quarters, sidearm, and even underhanded (submarine). Young holds the all-time MLB records for career innings pitched (7,356), games started (815), complete games (749), and consecutive hitless innings (25.1). The offered display has three parts: 1) A 1.5x2.7" Cy Young cut signature, in blue fountain ink. The signature is 7/10. The paper or cardstock on which it is written exhibits some foxing and darkening and a few light stains. 2) An approx. 7.5x9.75" black and white photo of Young pitching, most likely just after releasing the ball while warming up. The photo is in fine condition. 3) A plaque, measuring 5x5", in which the gold-colored, machine printing reads, "Cy Young/Pitched from 1890-1911/Won Pitcher's Triple Crown in 1901/511 career victories (all time record)/2803 career Strikeouts/815 starts (all time record)/749 complete games (all time record)." The display has been matted and framed to 16.75x21.5". The display comes with a PSA LOA for the signature. The display is in EXCELLENT condition.
