Presented is a very rare ticket from the doubleheader at Yankee Stadium pitting the New York Yankees against the Boston Red Sox on July 1, 1941, when Joe DiMaggio tied Willie Keeler's all-time consecutive 44-game hitting streak. DiMaggio came into the doubleheader with a 42-game streak. In the first game, a 7-2 Yankee win, Joltin' Joe had an RBI single off Mike Ryba to advance his streak to 43 games. In the second game, the Yankee Clipper tied Keeler when in the bottom of the 1st inning he singled to center field, played by his brother Dominic, and drove in Red Rolfe. DiMaggio only batted three times in this game, saving his streak by hitting his single, because the game was called after five innings and was an official game, won 9-2 by Boston. The ticket to the games, along with articles about the games, was glued to a scrapbook, so part of the ticket is obscured behind these relevant newspaper articles. In part, the ticket reads, "BASEBALL CLUB NEW YORK/RAIN CHECK/GAME NO. 34/$1.10." On the back of the faded but clearly legible news articles is a typed page, perhaps originally from a handwritten diary, in which the diary writer's attendance at the abovementioned second game is discussed. Of course, DiMaggio went on to extend his consecutive game hitting streak to a still-record 56 games. It is possible that the ticket could be professionally removed from the page.
