Offered is a 1961 Cincinnati Reds' World Series sun hat. The Reds won the NL Pennant in '61 with a 93-61 record. Cincinnati's lead hitters that year: Hall of Fame outfielder Frank Robinson, who batted .323 with 37 home runs, 124 RBIs, and 22 steals; Vada Pinson, a center fielder who batted .343 that season with 101 runs and 23 steals. The Reds' top pitchers in '61: Bob Purkey, who won 16 games; Jim O'Toole, who picked up 19 victories, and Joey Jay, who had a National League-leading 21 wins. The Reds faced the '61 New York Yankees, with sluggers Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, and the New Yorkers took the Series in five games. These hats were sold at or near Cincinnati's Crosley Field. The offered straw sunhat has a white ribbon that reads, "CINCINNATI REDS WORLD SERIES 1961" (repeated four times, with some of the words obscured where the bow is tied). Inside the hat, a tag shows a size medium. The passage of time has somewhat muted the bright red and white colors of the ribbon. The hat has a 7.5" length interior measurement for the head, and an approx. 14.5" overall diameter. The hat is in excellent condition.
