Pair of figural cast-iron andirons, depicting, respectively, a baseball pitcher and batter. These andirons were produced in 1909 and have always been highly coveted by both baseball and folk art collectors. The reverse of each displays moderate oxidation, but one can still make out the standard manufacturing engraving "RBS/09." Both andirons have been repainted and each displays a "Y" painted on the jersey. The andirons (19.5" in height) display moderate wear, with minor chipping/abrasions to the paint (greater on the batter andiron). Each andiron is accompanied by a cast-iron metal stand (19" in height) that allows for it to stand upright. This is an outstanding pair of these attractive turn-of-the-century baseball display pieces which remain fully functional and would be perfectly at home in front of any fireplace.
