This large, wooden crate (14.5x19.5x11.75") is a great example of 19th Century baseball advertising. The legendary Keebler-Weyl Baking Company of Philadelphia used the box to display its goods. The red (faded) and black, 9.5x19" lithographed paper label inside the hinged lid shows a late 1800s batter and catcher. The images have great late 1800s details: They are wearing the National League's Philadelphia Phillies colors of the late 1800s, red and white. The batter wears a pillbox cap and has a thick-handled bat; the catcher has no shin guards. The label reads, "Base Ball Champions Keebler-Weyl Baking Co., Philadelphia." The label is still very nice, with some wear, particularly around the edges. The wooden box shows great use, and the hinges to open the top are still operable. The box has some writing on the outside of it, along the right side. Overall, the box, considering its age of well over a century, is in very nice condition, and its advertising label is a terrific, vintage baseball advertisement.
