Presented is a circa 1979 Charleston Charlies game worn jersey. At that time, the Charlies were a Triple A International League franchise affiliated with the National League's Houston Astros and managed during the two possible seasons when this jersey was game worn (1978 or 1979) by Jim Beauchamp. The jersey, number 24, was likely worn by Larry Anderson, who appeared in nine games for the Charlies in the '79 season and had an 11-year career as a Major League right-handed pitcher with the Philadelphia Phillies, with a lifetime record of 83-71. He is currently a radio broadcaster for his former Philadelphia club. If the jersey was used a year earlier, then it was worn by pitcher Roy Thomas, who had a 9-4 record for the Charlies that year with a 3.14 ERA as Charleston had an excellent 85-55 season record. Thomas had an eight-year Major League career, with a lifetime 20-11 record pitching for the Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros, and St. Louis Cardinals. The V-neck, knit jersey has no year tags, so we are not exactly certain of the year it was game worn. The eye-catching jersey pops with color: White at the top and blue at the bottom, the shirt has horizontal stripes composed of three different shades of blue alternating with a few stripes of gold. On the upper chest is CHARLIES in gold block letters. A black & white Charlies logo is on the right chest. On the lower outside waist is a Medalist Sand-Knit manufacturer's tag, showing size 46. The back also has stripes of alternating blue and gold. On the upper back is a blue circle with a diameter of approx. 11.5", and in the middle of the sewn-on circle is number 24 in gold. The uniform pants are a white knit with a blue and gold set of stripes on the outside of each leg. A blue elastic band takes the place of a belt. On the back of the waistband are two tags: A size 32 tag on the Medalist Sand-Knit manufacturer's tag and a tag from "The Sport Mart"/Athletic Goods/Charleston, W. Va. The uniform shows nice use, and the colorful style has great eye appeal. The uniform, even with its use, is in very nice condition.
