Presented is a January 2, 2023, Cincinnati Bengals vs. Buffalo Bills Gameday program signed by Damar Hamlin, the Bills safety who suffered cardiac arrest during the game, almost suffering a fatal injury. The abovementioned game was a late-season Monday Night Football contest in Cincinnati. Hamlin was a 6th-round NFL Draft pick in 2021 by Buffalo. He was a backup in his rookie 2021 season, and he became a starter in 2022. On the play when he suffered cardiac arrest, Hamlin tackled wide receiver Tee Higgins after the Bengals wide receiver caught a pass from Bengal quarterback Joe Burrows near midfield. Higgins' elbow caught Hamlin in the chest as he was being tackled in a clean play by both players. However, after briefly standing up, Hamlin collapsed, unconscious. He was treated for 10 minutes on the field and then transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He had suffered an episode of commotio cordis, a very rare occurrence that is 97% fatal if not treated within three minutes. Fortunately, Hamlin eventually made a complete recovery, and he returned in the 2023 regular season, playing mostly on special teams. On the eve of the 2024 season, he still remains on the Buffalo Bills roster. The offered Gameday program measures approx. 6x9". The program reads, in part, "Buffalo Bills vs Cincinnati Bengals/Monday, January 2, 2023 - 8:30 PM/Paycor Stadium." Ironically, Joe Burrow, the Cincinnati quarterback who threw the pass to Higgins that led to the almost fatal tackle, is featured on the Gameday cover. Damar Hamlin signed the program cover in big and bold, neatly-written Sharpie, and he also inscribed his number "3" below his signature. The Hamlin Gameday program has been encapsulated, and it appears to be in excellent condition. It comes with a Beckett CGC Qualified Grade of 8.0.
