Displayed is a 1931 Connie Mack Associated Press original Type I photograph of the Hall of Fame manager. Born as Cornelius Mcgillicuddy, Mack was a player, mainly a catcher, for 11 Major League seasons (1886-96), with Washington and Pittsburgh in the National League, and a season with Buffalo in the Players' League, a Major League. Connie batted only a career .244, but he was a good defensive catcher and employed some tricky tactics, such as tipping batters' bats. Mack managed the American League's Philadelphia Athletics for the team's first half-century, 1901-50. He holds many MLB managerial records; for example, he has the records for most games (7,755), wins (3,731, and losses (3,948). He was at least a part-time owner of the Athletics for 54 years. He assembled three separate dynasties with the Athletics, but he had to sell players and break up each of his dynasties because of financial problems. He won nine pennants and five World Series as a manager. He managed numerous Hal of Famers, including four on his 1929 and 1930 World Champions: Jimmie Foxx, Mickey Cochrane, Al Simmons, and Lefty Grove. The 8x10" black and white photo shows Mack in a coat and tie, particularly since he wore a suit when he managed. The clear photo has excellent contrast and clarity. The back of the image has an "Associated Press Photo" stamp. The photo is in EXCELLENT condition. It has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as Type I AUTHENTIC.
