Displayed is a 1967 Red Schoendienst St. Louis Cardinals game worn World Series jersey that the Cards' manager wore during the St. Louis series triumph over the Boston Red Sox. Schoendienst, a Hall of Famer, played 19 Major League seasons: St. Louis Cardinals (1945-56 & 1957-60), New York Giants (1956-57), Milwaukee Braves (1957-60). A natural right-handed batter, Schoendienst became a switch hitter as a result of an eye injury he suffered while working as a 16-year-old for the Civilian Conservation Core. A nail had injured his left eye so that he had trouble picking up a curve ball against right-handed pitchers, so he became a switch-hitter. The 10-time All-Star batted a career .289. For 30 years he held the fielding percentage record for second basemen (.9934) until it was broken by Ryne Sandberg. As a manager, Schoendienst won the 1967 & '68 NL Pennants, and he skippered the '68 St. Louis Cards' World Champions. That '67 Cardinals team featured four Hall of Famers: Lou Brock, Orlando Cepeda, Steve Carlton, and Bob Gibson. Stars included Curt Flood, Tim McCarver, and Roger Maris. The Cardinals won the 1967 World Series in seven games. Bob Gibson was the '67 World Series MVP as he was magnificent, pitching three complete games and winning each one, including the Series clincher. Gibson had a 1.00 Series ERA. The offered jersey is white, with navy blue and gold trim. The famous "two birds on a bat" Cardinals logo is on front. Seven silver-white buttons run down the front. On back is Schoendienst, in red letters with navy blue trim. Below the player's name is number "2" in red numerals with navy blue trim. On the left front lower outside tail is a Rawlings manufacturer's tag showing size 44. Below the tag is "Schoendienst" chain-stitched in red. The home jersey is perfect, and we rate it a 10/10, all original with nice use, but no defects. It is very rare to find these jerseys all original, especially with the original name on back. At the very bottom of the front tail are the washing instructions, along with "Set 1 1967" flag tag. Included is a photo-matched image of Schoendienst and Red Sox Hall of Fame manager Dick Williams at the '67 World Series.
