A bat used by Dodgers Hall of Fame shortstop Pee Wee Reese during the 1947 season. The Louisville Slugger model R12, which is 35" long and weighs 33.2 ounces, and shows outstanding use. There are several ball marks along the ash bat's barrel. There is also a repair to a crack in the handle. The lot will include a Letter of Grading and Authenticity from PSA/DNA and the service as assigned the bat a grade of GU8. The item is signed on the barrel by the shortstop as Hal Pee Wee Reese. Reese had one of his best seasons in 1947, hitting .284 with a .414 On Base Percentage. He hit 12 home runs with 81 runs scored, 73 RBIs, and 7 stolen bases. 1947 was also the season that Jackie Robinson broke the MLB color barrier. Reese is known for supporting his teammate through the tough time and showed solidarity by putting his arm around his teammate's shoulder in response to heckling fans. The bat is a rare piece of memorabilia from a Hall of Famer and one of the best players of the 1940s and '50s.
