Presented is a 1947 Tex Hughson Boston Red Sox short print collection of ten (10) Tip-Top Bread cards. Hughson, born in 1916 in Buda, Texas, played for eight Major League seasons (1941-44 & 1946-49), all as a right-handed pitcher with the Boston Red Sox. Hughson had a career record of 96-54 with a lifetime 2.94 ERA. His best season was in 1944, when he went 22-6 with a 2.54 ERA and led the AL in wins, strikeouts, complete games (22), and innings pitched (281.0). The 3-time All-Star at his peak was one of the American League's top pitchers, but arm and shoulder injuries truncated his career. The offered premium player card measures 2.25x3". The front reads, Tex Hughson/Pitcher, Boston, A.L." The back has advertising copy, and it reads, in part, "'Walk' today to your local store and buy TIP-TOP.'" The cards exhibit varying degrees of toning. There is also some light corner scuffing and a few tiny stains. Considering that these photo cards were issued not long after World War II, they are in nice condition, and they evoke memories of the post-World War II days of the Red Sox in Boston, in 1947, still a two-team Major League city.
