Presented is a circa 1939 Joe DiMaggio original vintage photograph of the Yankee Clipper following through just after hitting the ball. Joltin' Joe played 13 Major League seasons, all with the New York Yankees. The Hall of Fame center fielder batted a career .325. His incredible 56-game consecutive hitting streak in 1941 is still the MLB record. The Bronx Bomber legend missed three full seasons for military service during World War II. DiMaggio was an All-Star in each of his playing seasons, and he helped lead the Yankees to nine World Championships. In 1939, Joe led the American League in batting average, at .381, one of the two times he was the AL batting champion. In '39, he belted 30 homers and drove in 126 runs. One of DiMaggio's most fascinating batting characteristics was the rarity of his striking out. In that '39 season, his 30 home runs exceeded his 20 strikeouts. For his career, DiMaggio's 361 home run total is only eight less than his lifetime total of 369 strikeouts. The offered 7x9" black & white photo shows DiMaggio, the catcher, and the umpire all looking toward where Joe hit the ball. The exact details of when, where, and against what team DiMaggio was playing when this photo was taken are not known. This is a great image of a DiMaggio at bat, illustrating his beautiful follow-through. The photo is in great condition with some pencil notations, written by an unknown hand, on back. The clarity of the image is perfect. The photograph has been encapsulated and PSA Certified as TYPE I AUTHENTIC.
