Presented is a fascinating 1980 Barry Bonds Cincinnati Reds Player Information Post Card. Barry Bonds is now the official MLB all-time Home Run King with 762 round-trippers. The son of San Francisco Giants star Bobby Bonds as well as the godson of all-time great Willie Mays, Barry Bonds in the summer of 1980 turned 16 years old, and he was playing the outfield for the San Mateo, California, American Legion team, and he was scouted in that summer. Barry completed a standard Cincinnati Reds Scouting card, a 3.25x5.5" U.S. Postal Card that had the message side machine-printed with many categories: name, address, position, height, weight, bats, throws, name of high school, American Legion team, etc. Bonds filled out the card, printing his answers in light blue ballpoint ink. The front of the postcard has the name and address of Cincinnati Reds scout Bobby Chavarria, filled out in pencil, apparently by Chavarria himself, in dark blue ballpoint ink. Seemingly written by Chavarria, at the bottom of the message side of the card, "Scouted American Legion Game 6-22-80/Futher [sic] Prospect - Follow." Bonds never played for the Cincinnati Reds organization. After a tremendous college playing career at Arizona State University, he was drafted 6th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1985 MLB Draft, and he signed with the Pirates organization. He spent 22 seasons in MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates (1986-92), San Francisco Giants (1993-2007). He has a lifetime .298 batting average, 2,935 hits, 1,996 RBIs, and 514 stolen bases. Barry was 1 14-time All-Star, a 7-time NL MVP, an 8-time Gold Glove winner, a 12-time Silver Slugger, a 2-time NL Batting Champion, and a 2-time NL home run leader. Controversy about alleged steroid use has kept him out of the Hall of Fame. The scouting postcard has been encapsulated and Bonds's signature, printed on the card in neat blue ballpoint, has been PSA/DNA Certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO.
