Offered is the opportunity to possess a pair of circa 1997 Ken Griffey Jr. Seattle Mariners' game used batting gloves, from the Hall of Famer's MVP era. The son of Major League outfielder Ken Griffey Sr., the younger Griffey is nicknamed both "Junior" and "the Kid." Junior played 22 Major League seasons: Seattle Mariners (1989-99 & 2009-10), Cincinnati Reds (2000-08), Chicago White Sox (2008). A terrific all-around player, Griffey hit 630 career home runs, currently 7th on the all-time MLB list. A great defensive center fielder, Griffey was a 10-time Gold Glove winner. The 13-time All-Star had an incredible 1997 season when he was the AL MVP, with Seattle. "The Kid" led AL batters in five categories: runs (125), homers (56), RBIs (147), slugging (.646), and total bases (393). The offered blue batting gloves show "NIKE" in raised white letters on the wrist strap of each glove. Each glove exhibits the Nike Swoosh twice. The number "24" is sewn onto each glove near the thumb slot. The gloves show heavy use. There is a possible small repair (glue) to the left thumb slot. A small protective pad, possibly a custom-made feature or a repair or accommodation, measuring approx. 1.5x1.75", has been sewn into the lower left inside portion on the left palm. Griffey used this style batting glove in 1996 and 1997, both years as a Seattle Mariner.
