Displayed is a 1934 Babe Ruth and Jimmie Foxx USA Tour of Japan PSA Type I black & white photograph. The tour featured an American team that was made up solely of American League players, as the National league would not permit its players to go on the tour. The tour was in November and December. The Americans traveled for games in 12 Japanese cities against a team of Japanese All Stars who later formed a team that became the Yomiuri Giants, Japan's first professional team. The Americans had Ruth, Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Earl Averill, Charlie Gehringer, Lefty Gomez, Moe Berg, and others. Connie Mack went along as an advisor. To great fanfare, the Americans played to packed stadia and were very popular. The Americans won all 18 games on the tour. Ruth, "The Bambino," had just completed his final season as a Yankee, and he would play only a half season more, in '35 with the National League's Boston Braves. Ruth found Japanese pitching to his liking as he belted 13 homers on the tour. Seated to Ruth's left is Jimmie Foxx, known both as "Double X" and "the Beast." That's a lot of homers sitting side-by-side in the dugout, as Foxx finished his career with 536 home runs, which put Foxx second only to the Babe in career homers when Double X retired. Ruth seems to be puzzled about something, and he appears to be scratching his head in perplexity. Hall of Fame manager Connie Mack is seated to Ruth's right. The snapshot photo measures 3.75x4.75". It has been encapsulated and PSA Certified Type I AUTHENTIC. The photo is in very good condition, with some minor creases on the corners.
