Displayed is a 1950 Jackie Robinson original news service Type I photo in which Jackie charges the plate in a daring move to score from first base on a single. Robinson was the National League Rookie of the Year in 1947 as he broke the Major League "Color Line." In 1949, in only his third Major League season but at 30 years old, Robinson was at his peak. He was the NL MVP, as he was the National League's batting champion, hitting .342. He also led the NL in steals, with 37. A 7-time All-Star, Robinson was a key figure in six Brooklyn pennants and the Brooklyn Dodgers' sole World Championship, in 1955. Robinson hit .311 for his career, with 137 home runs and 197 steals. In 1950, he batted .328. On the back of the photo is an attached suggested slug line that notes that Robinson is out "on his attempt to score all the way from first on Gil Hodges' single at Ebbets Field. Looking on are Pee Wee Reese of the Dodgers and umpire Augie Donatelli." Careful perusal of the photo shows that Robinson, a former backfield football star at UCLA, has put on a swerving running back-like move to the inside in an electrifying attempt to avoid the tag. "Action game [sic] in 8th inning of first game of a doubleheader, won by Dodgers, 3-2. CREDIT ACME 5-20-50." Also on back is an Acme stamp, editing marks, and "1950 N 58" written in blue ink by an unknown hand. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA Certified Type I AUTHENTIC.
