Displayed is a fascinating 19th Century baseball-themed metal watch stand. The stand has an oval base, measuring approx. 3x5.1". The stand has a charming figurine of a 19th Century Base Ball player, dressed in the somewhat formal wear common for baseball play at the time: in boots, a buttoned shirt, and a cap. At the feet of the player is a bat and a ball. The figurine player's right-hand touches a watch holder with a diameter of 2.5". The top of the holder has space for the neck of a pocket watch to hang. The manufacturer, the Middletown Plate Co. of Middletown, CT is machine stamped on the bottom. The offering is in wonderful EX-MT condition. This is a very rare, early baseball decorative item from the later 1800s. The watch held in the holder is not vintage and is for display only, as it has no value. The offering weighs 11.75 ounces.
