Roberto Clemente Pittsburgh Pirates professional model bat is an Adirondack model 194RW (Roberto Walker) dating from the 1971-72 labeling period. Ash bat has flame-burned finish, is uncracked, and substantial use evident includes ball marks, and pine tar. Measures 36.0" and weighs a massive 37.7 ounces, with model number stamped into the knob. The actual use history of this specimen is somewhat in doubt, as noted in the PSA/DNA LOA: "The oral history presented has the bat being used by both Clemente and Pirates teammate, Willie Stargell. Neither number appears on the knob and the bat does not display identifiable characteristics of either player." As such, we do not classify this as a Game Used Clemente bat, though it does carry a GU 6 grade from PSA. Though into his mid-30s, Roberto was as dynamic as ever during the 1971 and '72 seasons, batting .341 and .312 respectively while ending the latter campaign with exactly 3,000 career hits. Sadly, during the following off-season, Clemente was killed in a plane crash while on a relief mission to assist earthquake survivors.
