Al Oliver played 18 Major League seasons, with seven teams, but his peak seasons occurred when he was a first baseman-outfielder with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1968-77). Presented is a 1977 Al Oliver Pittsburgh Pirates game worn black, all-original jersey. Oliver believed in being confident. Once, when asked what kind of a season he expected to have, Oliver replied, "I'm going to have a good year because I'm Al Oliver. I always have a good year." For the most part, Oliver was right. He would almost always have a good year. He had a lifetime batting average of .303, with 219 homers. He led the NL in batting in 1982 with a .331 average. Oliver was an important member of the 1971 Pittsburgh Pirates World Champions. When Oliver wore the offered jersey in 1977, he batted .308, 10th in the NL, and had 19 homers and 82 RBIs as Pittsburgh finished second in the NL East Division. The chest area of the jersey has PIRATES in gold-colored sewn-on letters. Under the Pirates' name is 16 in sewn-on gold numerals. The left front tail has four tags: 1) Descente manufacturers. 2) Washing instructions showing 100% NYLON. 3) Set III 1977. 4) 16/40/77, showing Oliver's uniform number, the jersey size, and the year. The back has 16 in gold sewn-on numerals. The jersey shows fine use, and yet it is in excellent condition.
