Fulton John Sheen was a Roman Catholic priest, monsignor, and bishop who became a famous religious broadcaster on radio (1930-50) and then in the early days of television in the 1940s. He was born in Illinois in 1985, and after becoming a priest, he taught theology and philosophy at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. His television programs, Life Is Worth Living and The Fulton Sheen Show, became enormous hits and at one point attracted over 30 million weekly viewers, most non-Catholics. He became Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of New York in 1951. His television programs earned him two Emmy Awards as Most Outstanding Television Personality. He was even on the cover of Time magazine. He was the author of 73 books. He passed away in 1979. Using a ballpoint pen writing in red ink, Bishop Sheen wrote, "Mr. Bob Donnelly/God Love you/ + [a cross] Fulton Sheen." The inscription and signature are written on an approx. 2.25x4.1" cut piece of paper or card stock. The aforementioned item is affixed to a larger (approx. 3.4x4.25") piece of paper or card stock. Beneath the inscription and signature are two small pieces of plastic that have been imprinted with a labeler, reading, BISHOP FULTON J. SHEEN OF NEW YORK. The offering has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO.
