1907 Wolverine News Co. Ty Cobb (batting) postcard. Graded PR 1 by SGC. In 1907 the Wolverine News Co. issued a series of real-photo postcards depicting members of the American League Champion Detroit Tigers. Cobb was one of five players to be featured twice in the twenty-card issue, once in a batting pose and the other in a fielding pose. Both are exceedingly rare, and each is far more elusive than either Cobb's 1907 H. M. Taylor postcard or his 1907-09 Dietsche postcards. The offered example, which is the first we have offered in the past twenty-five years, is one of only thirteen listed in the SGC Population Report, and a search of the PSA Population Report reveals just an additional ten. This card is also new to the hobby and recently surfaced among a small group of cards and baseball memorabilia belonging to a long-time Detroit collector. The card bears a message and address written in pencil on the reverse, and is postmarked "Jul 1 1911 Battle Creek Mich." A large horizontal crease, extending border to border is the main reason for its technically accurate grade, but aside from that, the card displays only light corner wear and a few tiny perimeter chips. A fine example of this seldom-seen Cobb card.
