Striking Type I photograph of Detroit Tigers outfielder Ty Cobb as seen through the gifted lens of noted baseball photographer Paul Thompson. The legendary Georgia Peach is pictured standing in front of the dugout prior to a game as he surveys the playing field in the same way that a general does right before battle. The intensity of Cobb's gaze is palpable, and makes one feel truly sorry for whichever team he faced that day. Paul Thompson's credit stamp appears on the reverse, as does Cobb's name and team affiliation, and the year, 1912. Despite that year notation, research indicates that the uniform style shown here was used by the Tigers only in 1915. An additional stamping reading "The Ring, Inc," indicates that this photo was once housed in its archives. The photo (6x8") displays a vertical crease to the left of Cobb's image (does not affect Cobb's image in any way) and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Encapsulated by PSA as Type I Authentic.
