Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger was the Cardinal Bishop of Ostia and the Dean of the College of Cardinals when he was elected to the Papacy in 2005. In 2013 he made history when he resigned his position, becoming the first Pope to resign since Pope Gregory XII in 1415.
