He was known as "Larry Legend" and "The Hick from French Lick" and Hall of Famer Larry Bird blazed across the NBA sky for 13 years, all of them as a Boston Celtic. Presented is a February 4, 1993, Boston Celtics "Larry Bird Night" full ticket for a Celtics celebration for the ages. As described by sportswriter Gene Wojciechowski, of the Los Angeles Times, the event was, "A combination of Celtic pomp and circumstance, the basketball equivalent of a Kennedy wedding." The aforementioned newspaper article provides a thorough review of the ceremony: Numerous Celtic greats were there - John Havlicek, Bill Sharman, Tiny Archibald, Tom Heinsohn, Dennis Johnson, K.C. Jones, Bill Walton, and Cedric Maxwell, to name just a few. Announcer Bob Costas was the master of ceremonies, and the evening was a sellout of all 14,890 seats in the Boston Garden. As Wojciechowski's detailed article relates, Hall of Fame Celtic coach Red Auerbach spoke and said, "The only regret I have, I never coached him." Magic Johnson, a career on-court rival of Bird and a friend of the Celtics great off-court, said that "Larry Bird only lied to me one time. He said there will be another Larry Bird. There will never, ever, ever be another Larry Bird." Bird's number 33 uniform was officially retired, and the jersey was raised to the Boston Garden rafters. Bird, both a small and power forward, had averaged 24.3 PPG, with 10.0 TRB and 6.3 AST. He was a 12-time All-Star, a 3-time NBA MVP, a 2-time Finals MVP, a 3-time member of the NBA All-Defensive Team, and most important for Bird, a key member of three Boston Celtics' NBA Champions. The offered full ticket is immense, measuring 4.5x11". It reads, in part, "Boston Celtics present LARRY BIRD NIGHT/February 4, 1993, 7:15 PM BOSTON GARDEN/A Tribute to Larry Bird." The ticket is for a "VIP" seat, in Section FF, Row 3, priced at $45.00. In the center of the ticket is a 3.1x6.25" image created by famed artist LeRoy Nieman, one that uses Nieman's trademark splashes of color to depict Bird shooting his graceful jump shot. There was no actual professional game on this evening at Boston Garden. The capacity crowd was there solely for the tribute to Larry Legend. The ticket has been encapsulated and PSA graded as FULL NM-MT. The gorgeous ticket is full and unused. It is difficult to find in high grades because of its size.
