Collection of seventy-six photographs, each capturing Hall of Fame center Bill Russell. These photos originate from the personal collection of a former Boston sportswriter, who acquired most of them from either his newspaper's photo department or the Boston Celtics public relations department. Many are news photos (including wire photos, where the caption is embedded in the photograph), but publicity photos and non-commercial examples are also present. The majority picture Russell on the court or in uniform as a member of the Celtics, including several game-action shots battling Wilt Chamberlain. Approximately eighty percent of the photos measure either 7x9" or 8x10", with the remainder either slightly smaller or larger. Because most are news photos, many display flaws consistent with their former use, including, but not limited to, trimming, creasing, crazing, edge tears, editorial shading and/or markings, pinholes, and writing on the reverse. Please note: none of the photos have been evaluated by PSA, therefore no guarantees are made regarding specific Type designations, however, we believe the majority are NOT Type I examples.
