One of the greatest rivalries in basketball history is preserved for all posterity in this incredible game-action color transparency capturing Wilt Chamberlain of the Los Angeles Lakers attempting to score over Bill Russell of the Boston Celtics. Both players are high in the air as their teammates look on. Given their respective team affiliations, this encounter took place during the 1968-69 season. Although no documentation accompanies the transparency, according to our consignor, it was one of many obtained directly from Ozzie Sweet's widow a few years after his death in 2013. Ozzie Sweet was one of the greatest sports photographers of his era, best known for his portraitures and illustrative posed images. However, as this shot clearly shows, his eye for action photography was equally gifted. This image was apparently used as a cover image for a magazine based upon the editorial notation written along the top border that reads "D-Fast BR Cover - Back." The transparency (2.5x2.5") remains in Near Mint condition.
