One-page handwritten letter, dated "Jan 28th," signed by Rachel Robinson, wife of Jackie Robinson. In her letter, written on "Jackie Robinson" letterhead, Rachel writes to Martin Stone, who was Jackie's longtime agent. In full: "Dear Marty, We never discuss anything so trivial as money so I don't know if this is satisfactory on the Look story. If not please let us hear from you. We will never be able to fully repay you for all that you have done for us so what you don't get in money you will have to take in adoration (smile). Always, Rae." This letter refers to the exclusive Look magazine article in 1957 in which Robinson publicly announced his retirement from baseball. A handwritten note by either Stone or his secretary in the lower right corner defines the payment and date: "$1000-Dep 2/1/57 M. S. bus. acc." The letter (7.25x10.5") displays two notebook holes along the top border and two horizontal folds.
