Original Type I photograph capturing Roger Maris rounding the bases after breaking Babe Ruth's longstanding single-season home run record. The historic feat occurred at Yankee Stadium in the last game of the season against the Boston Red Sox on October 1, 1961. Taken from the vantage point of the lower grandstand, directly behind home plate, Maris can be seen on the base path in his home run trot as he approaches third base. Yogi Berra and the bat boy are pictured awaiting his arrival at home plate. This is a unique image and the only such example we have ever seen. (The original film negative from which this photo was made appears in a separate lot in this auction.) The photo (10x8") displays light handling wear along the edges, a tiny area of discoloration in the center, and light discoloration on the reverse. Encapsulated by PSA as Type I Authentic and accompanied by a corresponding full LOA.
