Original Type I photograph capturing Roger Maris crossing the plate after breaking Babe Ruth's longstanding single-season home run record. The historic feat occurred at Yankee Stadium in the last game of the season against the Boston Red Sox on October 1, 1961. Taken from the vantage point of the lower grandstand, directly behind home plate, Maris can be seen crossing the plate as teammate Yogi Berra congratulates him. Boston pitcher Tracy Stallard can be seen on the mound, head down, obviously dejected at serving up the historic blast. This is a unique image and the only such example we have ever seen. (The original film negative from which this photo was made appears in a separate lot in this auction.) The photo (10x8") displays light creasing along the border areas. Encapsulated by PSA as Type I Authentic and accompanied by a corresponding full LOA.
