On Sept. 18, 1953, Kid Gavilan successfully defended his world welterweight title with a 15-round split decision over Carmen Basilio at War Memorial Auditorium in Syracuse, the first world title fight ever in New York’s fourth largest city. The crowd was squarely behind Basilio, the son of an onion farmer from nearby Canastota, and the verdict was greeted with a shower of boos. However, virtually all of the ringside reporters had Gavilan winning by a shade. Extremely rare ticket stub has been uniquely signed by both boxers in 8/10 ink and appears to be in EX condition overall. Graded and encapsulated Authentic Auto by PSA.
