Presented is a 1910s Christy Mathewson original Brown Brothers Type I photograph as the New York Giants Hall of Fame inaugural inductee pitcher is warming up at the Polo Grounds. Mathewson had a lifetime record of 373-188, with a career 2.14 ERA. He pitched in the Major Leagues from 1900-16, all of it with the Giants except for a single start in 1916 with the Cincinnati Reds. He was a 2-time pitching Triple Crown winner and a 5-time National League ERA Champ. Mathewson's performance in the 1905 World Series, when manager John McGraw's Giants defeated Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics, was the greatest sustained performance by a pitcher in World Series history. Mathewson started three games in that Series, and he pitched a complete game shutout in each of those starts for an absolutely incredible record of 27 innings pitched, with only 13 hits over the three games, a 3-0 record, and a 0.00 ERA. The 4.75x6.5" photo has been encapsulated and certified by PSA as a Type I AUTHENTIC. There are stampings from Brown Brothers, famous sports photographers, on the verso. Also, on the verso is "Matty Mathewson" written in pencil by an unknown hand. It exhibits slight wear at corners, but no creases.
