Original Type I photograph, taken by noted baseball photographer Louis Van Oeyen, capturing future Hall of Fame manager Billy Southworth in 1914. The closeup image pictures Southworth in uniform as a member of "Cleveland." A Louis Van Oeyen credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with the date stamp "May 14 1914" and a few handwritten editorial notations. Given the date stamp, this photo most likely pictures Southworth as a member of the Cleveland Bearcats of the American Association, the club he played with in 1914. Southworth appeared in one game with the Cleveland Naps in 1913, but spent the entire 1914 season with the Bearcats. His Major League rookie season occurred in 1915, when he appeared in 60 games with the Cleveland Naps. Southworth didn't return to the Majors until 1918, at which time he began a successful eleven-year career playing with several National League clubs. Although he a was fine hitter (lifetime average of .297), his Hall of Fame credentials were based upon his managerial record. Southworth won three consecutive pennants and two World Championships with the Cardinals from 1942-1944 and later guided the Braves to the 1948 pennant. The photo (7.5x7.25") displays editorial shading to Southworth's image, as well as the name "Southworth" lettered in white on his hat. Full LOA from PSA certifying the photo as Type I Authentic.
