Displayed is a visually striking, highly creative prototype of the 2000 New York Mets National League Championship ring. This prototype ring was shown to the ownership of the team before the rings were produced. Managed by Bobby Valentine, the Mets were 94-68 in the 2000 regular season, one game behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East Division, and the Mets became the NL Wildcard team. Standouts for the "Amazin's" during the season: Hall of Fame catcher Mike Piazza hit .324, with 36 homers and 113 RBIs; second baseman Edgardo Alfonzo batted .324, with 25 home runs and 94 RBIs; third baseman Robin Ventura hit only .232, but with 24 home runs and 84 RBIs. Starting pitcher Mike Hampton went 15-10, with a 3.14 ERA; starting pitcher Al Leiter was 16-8, with a 3.20 ERA; closer Armando Benitez was 4-4, with 41 saves and a 2.61 ERA. In the post-season, the Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants 3-1 in games to win the NLDS, and New York beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 in games to take the NL pennant. The Mets lost 4-1 in games to the New York Yankees in a "Subway" World Series. Mike Hampton, with two wins in the NLCS, was named the NLCS MVP, and Al Leiter won the Roberto Clemente Award. The gorgeous ring is black, inlaid with real diamonds that make an interlocking NY. The ring is stamped "14K" inside, and the offering has the Josten's mark. Around the face of the ring is inscribed 2000 NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS. The left prong of the ring depicts the New York City skyline and reads, WILPON OWNER, for majority owner Fred Wilpon, and the words, AMAZIN' AGAIN. The right prong depicts a baseball diamond, and around the infield diamond are four pennants, labeled "1969 - 1973 - 1986 - 2000", representing the four pennant winning teams in Mets' history at that time. The right prong also reads, SUBWAY SERIES and has a depiction of two subway cars. The beautiful, size 11 ring is in NRMT condition, and as the 2000 Mets' prototype ring, it will make an impressive addition to any sports collection.
