Displayed is an original publicity photograph featuring Marilyn Monroe and Adele Jergens from the 1948 film Ladies of the Chorus, released by Columbia Pictures. The film's major significance was that it was the first motion picture in which Monroe had a starring role. Adele Jergens, only nine years older than Monroe in real life, played Monroe's mother in the film. Jergens had her first taste of fame when she was Miss World's Fairest at the 1939 New York World's Fair, and she acted in over fifty films. In Ladies of the Chorus, both Monroe (as Peggy Martin) and Jergens (as Rae Martin) are burlesque chorus girls in the musical romance directed by Phil Kariman. Of course, Marilyn Monroe would burst into superstardom in the 1950s with films such as The Seven Year Itch and Some Like It Hot and her appearance as Playboy's first centerfold. The black and white photo measures 7.4x9.1". It depicts Monroe and Jergens in character, backstage at a burlesque theater. The back has an attached suggested caption that reads, "... Adele Jergens and Marilyn Monroe in a scene from the Columbia production, 'Ladies of the Chorus.'" The Type I photo is in excellent condition. The original photograph has been encapsulated and PSA certified as AUTHENTIC.
