Displayed is a print of Hall of Fame slugger Ted Williams that is signed by both Williams, and the artist, John B. Martin. Williams played his entire Major League career with the Boston Red Sox (1939-60). He missed the equivalent of five full seasons because he was a pilot in the U.S. Marines in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Despite all of his military duty, Williams hit 521 home runs. The outfielder batted .344 lifetime and was the last man to hit .400 or better in the Major Leagues when he batted .406 in 1941. The creative, color print actually depicts four images of Williams. Viewed from the lower left image and then across the top from left to right, the four images seem to tell the story of a Williams home run. The lower left image shows "The Splendid Splinter" in the ready position, waiting for a pitch. The left top image shows his powerful swing. The center image shows his smooth follow through and his head raised to the flight of an unseen baseball. The image on the top right shows essentially a portrait-like shot of Williams broadly smiling, as he might after yet another game-winning, prodigious blast. The print measures 18x24", professionally matted and framed to 29x33". Williams has signed the print in pencil the lower left corner in neat, big and bold script. The artist has signed the print in pencil as "J Martin." The artist has also labeled the print in pencil as "144/344" and signed his name as "John B. Martin," also in pencil. The offering comes with a James Cumpton Certificate of Authenticity that certifies only the signature of the artist, John B. Martin. The offering also comes with a PSA LOA for the Ted Williams signature. The attractive print is a fine item in excellent condition.
