Presented is a Bill McKechnie signed 3x5" file card. A Hall of Fame manager, McKechnie was an infielder who played 11 Major League seasons for seven teams. Although batting only .251 lifetime, McKechnie stuck in the majors because of his baseball smarts and his fielding. As a skipper, he was the first manager to win World Series titles for two different teams: the 1925 Pittsburgh Pirates and the 1940 Cincinnati Reds. He remains only one of two managers to win pennants with three teams, as he won the 1928 pennant while skippering the St. Louis Cardinals. When he retired from managing, his lifetime wins were 1,692, second in the National League only to the 2,669 victories of the great John McGraw. Known as "Deacon" because he sang in his church choir and led a quiet life, McKechnie was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. The signed index card is inserted onto part of an apparent album page, measuring 4.9x7.3". The partial album page has a small McKechnie photo and handwritten printing, in an unknown hand, reading "August 1931 'Bill McKechnie',Mgr." On the top of the index card is typed "#1 The Boston National League Baseball Club." McKechnie signed the index card as "W B McKechnie," using blue ink from a fountain pen and writing in large, neat script. The file card shows fading because of the passage of time, but the card is in excellent condition.
