Displayed is a 1983 Jim Essian Cleveland Indians game used gray away jersey. Essian played for 12 Major League seasons (1973-84). The catcher played four years with the Oakland Athletics, three years each for both the Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago White Sox, and a season for the Cleveland Indians in '83, his next to last season. In his career, Essian hit .244, with 33 home runs. For Cleveland in '84, Essian played 48 games and hit .204, with two home runs and 11 RBIs. Essian was a good defensive backstop who would occasionally fill in at first base, third base and the outfield. The knit jersey has "CLEVELAND" on the chest in sewn on Navy blue letters with red trim. In the collar, the jersey has a Rawlings manufacturer's tag with a "42" size tag. Next to the manufacturer's tag is a "Set 1/ 1981" tag. The left sleeve has a Cleveland Indians logo. The back has "ESSIAN" in sewn-on black letters. Under the name is "17" in Navy blue numerals with red trim. Prior to the 1983 season, the jersey underwent a name and number change as the "81" tagged jersey was reissued with Essian's name and number. Overall, the jersey shows moderate use (with some loose threads and a few tiny stains), and it is in overall excellent condition.
