Those alterations indicate that the jersey was most likely sent down to the minors following the 1980s season or was used by another player during the 1981 spring training season (a common practice at the time). The jersey displays moderate wear, including light, scattered staining on the front and reverse. Steve Stone enjoyed a career year in 1980, winning a league-high 25 games and recording a 3.23 ERA. Those numbers later earned him the Cy Young Award at season's end.
